The day no one wants
Monday was a bad day, the battle was over for my pal of 14 years, it was a relief as she would not suffer anymore, but I knew from this day I would be alone, perhaps for the first time in my life. I have buried her next to Rose who passed away to cancer almost to the day 3 years ago, strange how life works out.
I looked back at her papers and all her linage are Australian champions, I will track...

Stranger things

Life Sucks at times
Well today I found out that my pal of nearly 13 years has months to live due to the big C. We saw the Oncologist this morning and its chemo for Missy to try and give her some quality in the last few months. I am as you can imagine fucked! after all i’ve been through now this, fuck I know it sounds selfish but walk in my shoes and you’ll know.

An oasis in the highlands
As most of you will know i do search out the odd culinary delight, and for all the years i have bee coming here i have passed a place that was along beaten road and was an old farm mill. This place apparently is a working dairy farm and sells exquisite ice cream, and unbeknown to me food!
The”Laird” insisted we call in for a spot of lunch and with bit of trepidation entered what was...

A day off
Sorting through your parents things can be depressing and since this was really hard as you have to deal with a lot of emotions, so I decided to take a day off.
The day started with an unusual thing in the sky, yes a full sun and a big blue sky. I headed off to a place called Blairgowrie, a town that has it’s signs in Gaelic and English as this was the gateway to the Eastern Highlands where...
A pleasant surprise
Jumping back in time now to last Sunday, yes I know I’ve just lost the American audience as they can’t handle time travel, fairly evident by the shows that they cancel that feature this. Anyway Sunday was Fathers day and I decided to take the Laird to Meikleour hotel for a spot of lunch, now some of you will find this familiar, and if you do pat yourself on the back and pour yourself a...
The long road to pitlochry
Just a quick post as there is no service as I am in the highlands of Perthshire. I’ve arrived at a Turkish restaurant where the menu is thick with lamb and koftas of all sorts. However I am having scampi or what I hope is scampi as these days it can be monkfish so I will tell you soon.
Bit of a hunger building up as i was sampling some rather fine whisky that the laird insisted I have as I...
General Wade
I then headed to Aberfeldy which has a rather nice distillery, which unfortunately I couldn’t call in as I was the pilot. However I have talked ” the Laird” to make a call during the week so we will get to sample the smokey amber nectar of a long distilled malt. I then headed down to Dunkeld where in the 1700’s, General George Wade was dispatched to quell the Jacobite...
Towards Schiehallion
I soon found loch Rannoch and that’s where I had to bid farewell to a decent b class road. The road took me round Schiehallion, the highest mountain or Munro in Perthshire at just over 3547 feet and the namesake of my house in Applecross. The road was littered with sheep, wandering around minding their own business which given the economy I think they may be short lived. The road was very...
Heading Norh
I headed North up towards an establishment that was for the gentry as this was expensive highland gear from tartan to cashmere to lambswool and some of the finest produce that is grown in Scotland. I wanted to stop there as I rather like the garments they produce and it serves as a good resting point before I get on the beaten track. Although GB is deep in a recession the prices here were sky...
Warm weather at last
Thursday arrived at my normal time of 4 am which is when the hot water system comes to life and wakes me up. I did notice through my heavy eyelids that there was a rather unusual glow in the sky, a sight I had not seen for o let’s just say a week, yes the sun was making it’s annual appearance here in the arctic circle that I call home. I decided today that I would have a day to myself...
The road to nowhere
Well, battling the man cold not quite as serious as the deadly flu that we men get but nonetheless a persistent bastard that can bugger up your day and worse your sense of smell. I say this as most of you will know I have a very keen proboscis, a useful tool when sampling the best thing that the Romans gave us. Anyway back to the story, I made a wee dash to Perth as I had to pick up a few...
Did I mention the wine
A couple of years ago I was sunning myself with cousin Tim in the Napa valley, drowning our thirst with some exquisite wine and some not so nice. We came across a winery called clos du Val which I am warning you now is laden with preservatives. Whilst I was there I noticed that the grapes were ready to be picked, there were no nets, no weeds, and no insects and birds and the person behind the bar...
Finally airborne
The pilgrimage started out well, the Qantas staff were very nice and supplied me with a few bottles of “Rowling” which is an exceptional red. All too soon we stopped in Singapore, which meant that I could try my luck in the Qantas lounge as oddly enough my London Edinburgh leg had business class on it, which was very surprising as the “shuttle” has only one class and...

From a land far away to home as I know it
I bade farewell to the frozen North, here where I camped out on the stone cold floor of Heathrow’s terminal 5, waiting for a connect to take me North to Edinburgh.
I arrived in the middle of the night or early morning which ever one you fancy to a warm 20 degrees, needless to say it took a while to thaw out. I always suffer badly when I come from the Northern Hemisphere with jet lag and...
Fond Memories
Wel a lot has happened since I last wrote, I know you thought I’d been put away due to the severe hair cut. Well let say I did get clocked twice as I entered immigration in GB, yes its fucking GB not the UK.
The trip was to be a surprise for my Mother for Christmas as she was suffering Cancer so I thought I would surprise her, well lets say I got the surprise as she acquired an infection...

Close Shave
Funny thing happened at the barber, well funny to all who know me but not funny to me.
I decided to get a hair cut and as I entered the salon there were no people who had previously cut my hair, not a problem have faith. Anyway the girl asked what I would like and I said short on the sides and blend in the top and cut the fringe. Well she prepared the clippers and then walked behind me and cut...

Last night with Mr Campbell's School for the...
Last night with the most delightful people I have met in a long time, yes its a fond farewell to Wingman, who has saved me from the most horrendous stalkers… Katie with the tree, and Briony who always gets a family guy youtube video to look at, by the way Briony can you find my wallet? and Channel whom I’ve just remembered … and Asher the mermaid.

New chapter
Well here it is a new blog on a new platform suggested by cousin Tim aarfie.com should you need web services etc, I know a shameless plug. Anyway it will take me a while to fiddle to get this right as time seems to escape me. I’ll tell you its no wonder that retired folk seem happy as they have the time to do stuff.
Anyway back to me, well I’m recovered enough from my bout...
